Subspecialty Continuing Certification

Subspecialty Certification: Exam Requirement for CC

If you are certified in an ABPMR subspecialty, there may be separate examination required to maintain your subspecialty certification. This is the only part of the ABPMR Continuing Certification (CC) Program that doesn’t have reciprocity — meaning that if you meet the requirements for professionalism, lifelong learning, and quality improvement for primary certification, those activities also count for maintaining your subspecialty certification(s).

Hospice and Palliative Medicine Examination for CC

The ABPMR no longer offers HPM (Hospice and Palliative Medicine) as a subspecialty certification. All HPM diplomates now apply and certify for HPM through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). Current HPM diplomates will receive a new HPM certificate and details of certification requirements from the ABIM in early 2022; if you are a current or future HPM fellow in training you may apply for your HPM certification with the ABIM. Please see more details of this transition here.
