Practice and Training Requirements
Before You Apply
Candidates who apply for subspecialty certification in SCIM through the ABPMR must hold current board certification by a member board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) and must have a current, valid, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in at least one jurisdiction in the United States, its territories, or Canada.
In addition, applicants for the SCIM Examination must satisfactorily complete 12 months of an ACGME-accredited fellowship in SCIM and:
- Be evaluated annually by the program director
- Be recommended for admissibility to the SCIM Examination by the program director upon successful completion of the training program
- Finish the training program after completing residency and by the August 31 that precedes the examination date
