AAPM&R Spine Registry Approved for MOC Part IV Credit

In a new initiative announced at its Annual Assembly in New Orleans, the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AAPM&R) is partnering with the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) to create a Spine Patient Registry.

This registry will support the collection and submission of quality outcomes for spine patients, helping to track the outcomes of these patients over time. Following these patients longitudinally and collectively will yield both practice-specific feedback data as well as global data to help improve quality outcomes for spine patients across many practices.

This marks the first time that two medical specialties have worked together to create a registry.

And even better news for ABPMR diplomates: Participating in the Spine Patient Registry can be used to fulfill your ABPMR MOC Part IV (practice improvement project) requirement. The ABPMR will announce specific requirements for Part IV credit in the coming year.

The AAPM&R is actively seeking pilot sites to begin the spine patient registry pilot in January 2017. A limited number of sites will be selected, and there is no cost during the pilot phase. Contact the AAPM&R if your site is interested in participating.

The ABPMR congratulates the AAPM&R and AANS on this endeavor and we look forward to seeing what our diplomates will do to improve spine patient care in their practices and across the country.
