ABPMR Moves Part II Examination To Virtual Administrations This Fall

Due to ongoing uncertainty about the course of COVID-19 this fall, the ABPMR has canceled the in-person 2020 Part II Examination; we are pleased to announce that virtual Part II Examination administrations will be offered this fall.

“The mission of the ABPMR is to protect the public,” says Carolyn Kinney MD, ABPMR Executive Director. “Given the current course of COVID-19, proceeding with in-person oral examination presents a significant public health risk, as it requires hundreds of candidates and examiners to travel by air and conduct examinations in enclosed spaces. We felt this posed an unacceptable health risk to candidates, examiners, and staff.”

Virtual Part II Examination
In order to manage exam logistics and address any technical issues, the ABPMR will conduct the Part II Examination over several administrations in late 2020, starting in September. The first administration will be given the weekend of September 12-13, 2020. Other administrations will be held in October and November on dates to be determined.

All 2020 Part II Examination candidates will be assigned to one of the virtual examination dates, and we will share additional information about dates as soon as they are selected. Candidates also taking a subspecialty examination in 2020 will be assigned a date that does not conflict with their other examination date.

More information about technical requirements and other exam details will be released in a variety of formats over the coming months, including written materials, videos, and webinars. The ABPMR team is now working on schedules and will inform candidates of their assigned date and time as soon as possible.
