Announcing Reduced SA-CME Requirement for all PM&R Diplomates!

As part of ongoing efforts to simplify Continuing Certification (CC) requirements, the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (ABPMR) is reducing the Self-Assessment CME (SA-CME) requirement for all five-year Continuing Certification cycles from 50 credits to 48 credits. This change is effective immediately and will apply to all current and future five-year CC cycles.

While there are many SA-CME opportunities available, this update aligns the SA-CME requirement with the credits earned through participation in Longitudinal Assessment for PM&R (LA-PM&R). Diplomates can earn up to 12 SA-CME credits per year through full participation in LA-PM&R, allowing the entire 48-credit SA-CME requirement to be satisfied by the end of the fourth year of a five-year cycle. As a reminder, you are required to meet the performance standard after four years of participation, but you may still participate in year five for additional or missed SA-CME credits.

ABPMR remains committed to providing a Continuing Certification program that supports lifelong learning while eliminating complexity and administrative burden. We encourage diplomates to participate consistently in LA-PM&R to take advantage of this streamlined pathway for meeting SA-CME requirements.
