Residents: “Bank” An IHHC Project Now – Find out How!
As you progress through your PM&R residency, you will encounter many requirements to complete along the way. One requirement that will come up during your first continuing certification (CC) cycle following initial board certification is to complete an Improving Health and Health Care (IHHC) project. To give you a jump-start on this, the ABPMR now offers residents the opportunity to “bank” a qualifying IHHC project (formerly known as a Quality Improvement project) during residency and apply it toward your first five-year CC cycle.
What Qualifies?
Any structured quality improvement initiative that demonstrates incremental improvements you are continually making in your practice or processes. Your IHHC (QI) project should follow the well-known Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) methodology: identifying a problem, taking a baseline measurement, setting a goal, making a change, and measuring again to see whether you reached your goal. Visit the ABPMR IHHC Requirements & Options page for more information and when you are ready to submit a project use our IHHC Submission Platform. Your program director may assist with attestation or guidance.
Why It Matters
• IHHC credit is a key component of your CC cycle.
• Banking a project now reduces future workload and highlights your proactive approach to certification.
