SCIM and PRM Initial Certification Exams to be Offered Every Other Year

Beginning in 2025, the ABPMR will offer the initial certification exams for Spinal Cord Injury Medicine (SCIM) and Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine (PRM) every other year. Currently those exams are offered every year. Re-entry examinations for SCIM and PRM will still be offered once every year. The re-entry exams are only for those diplomates who are not able to successfully complete their longitudinal assessment (LA) requirements within their five-year recertification cycle or who are currently lapsed in certification.

If you are planning to take the SCIM or PRM subspecialty certification exams in the next few years, make sure to plan and prepare according to the new schedule. The SCIM and PRM exams will be offered on October 30, 2025. After 2025, the next initial certification exams for these subspecialties will be in 2027.
